The short version
Your video and audio recordings never leave your device. There is no account and no password, and we never see or store your practice sessions.
A few things do leave your device, and this page lists every one: your browser's speech service transcribes what you say; if you send a review, share a question or ask for help, that goes to our web host so we can read it; we count anonymous usage events; and the page loads its fonts, a posture model and the interviewer videos from public file servers. We do not sell your information, share it for advertising, or send you marketing email.
What stays on your device
Your recordings. When you run an interview, your camera and microphone are captured by your browser and held in memory only. Your video and audio are never uploaded, by us or anyone else. Closing the tab destroys them permanently. If you export a transcript, it is saved to your own device.
Posture feedback. Feedback on your posture and which way you are facing is calculated on your device. To do it, your browser downloads a body-detection model from Google's and jsDelivr's public file servers. Like any web server, they receive your IP address and the fact that a file was requested. They never receive your camera image.
What we save in your browser
To remember your settings and show your progress, Klavy saves a small amount of information in your browser's local storage, on your own device. We cannot read it. Klavy does not use cookies.
| Saved on your device | Why |
|---|---|
| Your settings | So you don't set up again every visit |
| Session summaries: date, format, score, words per minute, filler rate, answer length | To draw your progress chart |
| Simple counters, such as how many interviews you've started | To show the right prompts at the right time |
| A short diagnostic log of interviewer audio playback, and the app version | To troubleshoot sound problems |
We do not save your recordings, transcripts or the content of your answers. Clear history on the Progress page erases your session summaries; clearing your browser's data for klavy.org erases everything above.
Information you send us
Three parts of Klavy send information to us, through Netlify Forms, a service of our web host, Netlify:
- A review, if you leave one: your rating, any comment, your email address if you add it, the format, and how many questions you answered.
- A question you were asked, if you share one: the question you typed and the specialty, and nothing else. We read it to decide whether to add it; it is never published automatically.
- A help request, if you send one: the topic, your message, your email address, and the format, page and browser type you were using, so we can diagnose the problem.
Netlify stores these submissions and records technical details with them, such as your IP address and browser type. We read them in Netlify's dashboard, and a daily summary of new submissions is emailed to our inbox, which is hosted by Google (Gmail).
We use this information to run Klavy, to understand and improve it, and to reply if you contact us. We do not sell, rent or share it with anyone for their own use, and we do not send marketing email.
Usage counts
To see whether Klavy is being used and where people get stuck, we count moments such as an interview starting or finishing, a format being chosen, a sound problem, or the help page being opened. Each is recorded by asking our own server for a tiny file, with no cookie, name, email or other identifier attached. When an interview starts or finishes, or the question PDF is downloaded, Klavy also sends Netlify Forms a short record with the format and flier code, if any, and nothing else; Netlify records technical details such as IP address with it. Netlify also counts page visits from its server logs, without cookies.
Live transcription
Delivery scoring needs a transcript, which Klavy gets from the speech recognition built into your browser. Most browsers do this on a remote server, so your audio goes to your browser company's speech service (for example, Google for Chrome) under its privacy policy. We never receive that audio or the transcript. If you would rather no audio be processed anywhere, use a browser without speech recognition or decline microphone permission; you can still record and review yourself.
Interviewer videos
The practice interviewer's videos are delivered from Cloudflare's file storage (R2). Your browser downloads them like any image on a web page; nothing is uploaded. Like any web server, Cloudflare receives your IP address and browser details when the videos are requested.
Fonts
The site's typefaces load from Google Fonts. Like any web server, Google receives your IP address and browser details when the fonts are requested.
The closer read
Klavy has an optional "closer read" that sends the text of your answers to OpenAI for written feedback. It is not offered at launch. If we turn it on, this page will say so first, along with exactly what is sent.
Optional voice setting
A setting not shown in the normal interface lets a technical user supply their own OpenAI or ElevenLabs API key for a different interviewer voice. If a key is supplied, the text of interview questions is sent to that provider. The key is held in memory for the current tab only, is never saved, and is never sent to us.
Who processes information for us
| Company | What for |
|---|---|
| Netlify | Hosting the site, storing form submissions, page and event counts, and running our server functions |
| Our email inbox (Gmail), for the daily summary; fonts; the body-detection model file; your browser's speech service if you use Chrome | |
| jsDelivr | Delivering the body-detection software files |
| Cloudflare | Delivering the interviewer videos (R2 storage) |
How long we keep it
Form submissions stay in Netlify, and daily summaries stay in our inbox, until we delete them. We delete them when you ask. Information saved in your browser stays there until you clear it.
Your choices and requests
You can ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, through the Help & contact form at the bottom of the practice app, with the email address you gave us or enough detail for us to find your submission. We will respond within 45 days, wherever you live.
Security
The site is served only over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and access to form submissions is limited to us. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
Klavy is for medical students and graduates. It is not directed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, tell us through the Help & contact form and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top, and for material changes we will say what changed on this page.
Who we are
Klavy is operated by a dermatologist and Mohs surgeon in the United States. Contact: the Help & contact form at the bottom of the practice app.
